Lois Hancock Obituary

Lois E. Hancock, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2026, at Bethany Home following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, February 6, 2026, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, with Father Mark Ressler officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lois was born on May 17th, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Becker) Frank. She married James F. Hancock on August 25, 1956, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2003.

Lois was a lifelong member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially playing cards, bowling, and golfing. Her skill on the golf course was notable, as she achieved an impressive five hole-in-ones. Lois also enjoyed to travel and she cherished the trips she took with her husband Jim and her friends.

Known for her impeccable style and attention to detail, Lois worked in retail at The Closet and Maurices. Her sense of fashion and commitment to customer service earned her many loyal, repeat customers who appreciated her advice.

Above all, Lois will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, devoted to her family and always present in their lives.

She is survived by her daughter Ann (Jeff) Blake; her four sons: Tim (Kay) Hancock, Bob (Tina) Hancock, Pat (June) Hancock, and Chuck (Joyce) Hancock, 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; her brother Robert “Butch” Frank; brother and sister-in-law Jack & Gayle Hancock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her son James J. “J.J” Hancock, granddaughter Leslie Hancock; sisters and brothers-in-law Sr. Janice Hancock, PBVM, Blaine & Janaan Hancock, Calvin “Blackie” & Margaret Hancock, and Bill & Jannan Hancock. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or St. Columbkille Catholic Church.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Cao and his staff, as well as Hospice of Dubuque, for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Lois. A special thank you to the staff at Bethany Home for their devoted care of Lois over the past six years. The family deeply appreciates the kindness and attention given to her during this time.
