Lyle J. Kelchen, 49, of Asbury, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at home surrounded by family after a battle with brain cancer.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 7th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 3:00 p.m.

Lyle was born on July 8, 1967 in Manchester, Iowa the son of LeRoy and Roselyn (Boge) Kelchen. He married Lori McDermott on May 16, 1992 at the Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa.

He worked as a Supervisor at Eagle Window and Door in Dubuque for 29 years.

Although Lyle was a man a few words, it was clear what was important to him. He always put his family first and enjoyed going on family vacations. He even looked forward to heated debates with his sidekick Jack.

In addition, Lyle was a hard worker who took great pride in everything he did. He found great joy in woodworking, cutting wood, splitting wood, four-wheeling, dominating in euchre and camping, especially with the “Final Four Camping Group”.

Lyle was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He will surely be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Lori; four children, Shelby, Cody, Lucas and Anthony all at home. His parents, LeRoy and Roselyn Kelchen, of Dyersville, Iowa; brothers, Bruce (Marcia) Kelchen, of New Viena, Iowa, Bryan (Shelley) Kelchen, of Dyersville, Iowa, Kyle (Mary Jo) Kelchen, of Epworth, Iowa, Mitch (Tina) Kelchen, of Bellevue, Iowa; one sister, Laura Kelchen, of Marion, Iowa. His father-in-law Jack McDermott, of Dubuque, Iowa; Brothers-in-law, Rick (Paula) McDermott, of Benton, WI, Randy McDermott, of Dubuque, Jim (Kelly) McDermott, of Dubuque; sister-in-law, Jodi (Randy) Butlett, of Dubuque; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Emily Boge and Peter and Florence Kelchen, one sister Loretta; mother-in-law Delores McDermott and many aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers a Lyle Kelchen memorial fund will be established.

The family would like to thank their family and friends for all their love and support, especially Michelle Osterhaus for all the care she had given Lyle these past few months.
