Marie Stackis, 92, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19th, 2025.
Family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque, where a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with Deacon Mike Ellis officiating. A private entombment, for immediate family will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, IA.
Marie was born on April 1, 1933, the daughter of Michael and Luella (Fetchele) Gassman in Spechts Ferry, Iowa and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Marie married John Stackis on April 21, 1951, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque and together were blessed with four children: Deborah, Karen, Jack and Steve.
Marie proudly worked in retail sales for various department stores in the Dubuque area. Marie was known for her bright smile and adorable giggle. She loved to shop for the latest fashions and always dressed in classy and stylish clothes. Every Christmas grandma made her famous butter cookies which everyone absolutely loved!
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Deborah Krier (Joe Korzelik) of Dubuque, Karen (Steve) Klinkhammer of Asbury, Jack Stackis of Peosta, and Steve (Stacy) Stackis of Dubuque; grandchildren: Laura Somerville, Brian (Jackie) Krier, Tina Krier, Steve (Kristi) Klinkhammer, Bridget (Paul) Bartlett, Shawn (Stacy) Stackis, Kelly Stackis, Alex Stackis, Ashley (Logan) Steffans, Cameron, and Cody Stackis; great-grandchildren: Austin Somerville, Zachary Somerville, Ethan Somerville, Peyton Somerville, Isabele Krier, Isaac Krier, Hallie (Forest Copeland) Krier, Amanda Schwartz, Debbie Lee Schwartz, Bailey Klinkhammer, Kara Klinkhammer, Tessa Klinkhammer, Aiden Bartlett, Sawyer Bartlett, Brianna Stillmunkes Stackis, McKenna Stackis, Rylie Stackis, Brynlee Stackis, Aleece Stackis, Kaylee Stackis, Ashleigh Stackis, Rohan Steffans, and Grayson Steffans; great-great-grandchildren: Maverick Copeland, Marcello Copeland, Catalina Stackis, and Rowan Stackis. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Butlett of Dubuque, and Margie Sutter of Dubuque, and her special friend Vern Brownell of Holy Cross, IA.
Marie is preceded in death by her loving husband, John; her parents; her brother, Robert Gassman; brothers-in-law, Al Butlett, and Donald Sutter; son-in-law, Joseph Krier; grandson-in-law, Brian Somerville; great-grandson, Ethan Somerville and a great-granddaughter Maggie Stackis.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Marie C. Stackis memorial fund.
