Melvin Goffinet Obituary

Melvin T. Goffinet, 88, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on June 2, 2023, at home.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a service to be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Melvin was born on September 25, 1934, in Bellevue, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Helen (Wilming) Goffinet.

He married Joan Chalders and she preceded him in death in 1983.  In 1990 he married Beverly (Carlson) Harrington.

Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and a good game of cards.  He spent time in San Diego and used to set pins for KC Hall. When he was 10 years old he went to East DBQ to shine shoes; he still has his stool.

Melvin is survived by his wife Beverly; three children, Steve “Goof” (Tonya) Goffinet of Sarasota FL, Cathy (Putter) Hoffman of Dubuque, Daniel (Vicki) Goffinet of Sarasota FL. Three stepchildren, Jackie (Greg) Chapman of Dubuque, Darwin (Roberta) Harrington, Eric (Jenny) Harrington all of Dubuque. 10 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren; a brother Burt (Pam) Goffinet, three sisters, Bernita (Joe) Maas, Doris (Joe) Hoffmann, Yvonne Klass; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Woodby, Bonnie (Al) Murphy, and a brother-in-law, Larry (Linda) Cornelius.

He was preceded in death by parents, his 1st wife, Joan; a son, Stanley Goffinet, two brothers, Milton & Glen, a brother-in-law, Herbie Klass.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially, Amy, Morgan, Becky and Dianne for the wonderful care they provided to Melvin.
