Patricia Ann “Patsy” O’Connell, 78, of Bernard Iowa died Friday May 23, 2014 at River Bend in Cascade.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Saint Patrick’s Garryowen with Fr. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.  to 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014, at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where a parish wake service will be at 12:45.

Patsy was born on March 19, 1936, in Bernard, Iowa to Vern & Rita (Donovan) McCarthy. She was a 1953 Class President & Graduate of St. Patrick’s Garryowen.

She married Edmund O’Connell, June 21, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Garryowen, and worked for Clinton Engines & retired from Mt. Carmel Sisters of Charity, BVM.

She was a Associate Member of Sisters of Charity, BVM, member of  Bernard Senior Citizens, and St. Patrick’s Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren and the Birthday Group.

She is survived by her children; Barbara (Donnie) Schuster, Zwingle, Johnny (Rita) O’Connell, Bernard, Raymond (Joann) O’Connell, Zwingle, Cathy (Rick) Rubel, Zwingle, Leonard (Beth) O’Connell, Zwingle, Laurie (Kenny) Morehead, Bernard, Judy (Kraig) Kruse, Maquoketa, Shirley (Chuck) Soliday, Bernard. 20 Grandchildren & 2 Great-grandchildren. Her Sister Arlene (Dick) Henneberry, Sisters-in-law: Loretta Shanahan,  Rose Asbury and many nieces & nephews

Preceded in death by: Her husband, Edmund, her infant son, William Joseph, her parents, her sister Janeen (Don) Pape, her brother Jack (Mary Jean) McCarthy, Brothers & Sisters-in-law: James O’Connell, Pat O’Connell, Eileen Fassbinder & Eleanor Slattery.

In lieu of flowers a Patsy O’Connell memorial fund has been established.
