Phillip Rote Obituary

Phillip A. “Phil” Rote 72, of Dubuque, IA passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Manor Care. Friends may call from 10:30 am to noon on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, a prayer service will conclude the visitation with Pastor Don Jackson Officiating. Full military honors will follow accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans.

Phil was born on October 29, 1945 in Seattle, Washington the son of Marvin and June (Phillips) Rote. He served in the U.S. Navy for two tours of duty in Vietnam, and later worked as a police officer for the City of Rockford, IL. He moved to Dubuque and did security work where he met and married Ruth Rath on Sept. 30, 1998. Phil enjoyed watching reality TV and Military Movies in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife Ruth a daughter Tracie Rinaldo of Polo, IL, a grandson Nathan Rinaldo, three step children Daniel (Gina) Bonnett in Arizona, Timothy (Diana) Bonnett in Texas and Peggy (Rick) Stecklein of Dubuque; 6 step grandchildren, a brother Rod (Tracy) Rote of Marengo, IL, three sisters Grace Ellen (Dan) Reimer of Oregon, IL, Ruth Ann (George) Bower of Oregon, IL, and Jacqueline (Ralph) Plocker of Dixon, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers a Phil Rote memorial fund has been established.
