Rickey Mills Obituary

Rick A. Mills, 70, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at University of Wisconsin Hospitals.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque.

Rick was born on September 24, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Nancy (Sarazin) Mills.

He married Vickie Becker on October 26, 1974, at St. Anthony’s Church, Dubuque, Iowa.

Rick was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. He spent many years as a partner in R & R Mills Trucking with his brother, Randy.  He later worked for and retired from Sitco.

Rick was blessed with a full and rich life. He was fortunate enough to find the love of his life at a young age and they were married for 51 years. In their hearts, that was not long enough. They had many more years planned together. They knew right away they were meant for each other and kept that promise of through sickness and health and until death do they part through his last breath on this earth, where they were able to be at each other’s side. He knew he was loved to the very end and was not alone. They agreed to never go to bed mad and to always love one another – and they kept that promise. The things Vickie will miss the most about Rick are his laughs (we all know that belly laugh he had), his kisses, his hugs, and hearing his words every day of “I love you hon, see you later”. Rick was also blessed with and cherished his beautiful, close-knit family that included his son, Nathan and grandchildren. Rick was close with all of his nieces and nephews, but he stepped up as a second father to his nephew, Michael, after his father, Rick’s brother, passed away unexpectedly.  The apple of Rick’s eye was his granddaughter, Kamryn, who was his “love bug” and always brought a smile to his face. Rick was also loved and cared for by his several siblings, in-laws, and friends, especially his best friend, Scott.  Rick was a kind and caring man to all he encountered. He could strike up and hold a conversation with anyone.

Through the years Rick enjoyed many things in life. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, turtle hunting, boating, stock car racing, NASCAR Sundays, Thursday night pool nights with his brothers, his pets, and being outside and enjoying nature - especially watching the hummingbirds in the yard. Rick represented a truly kind and genuine soul.  He was the epitome of a great and honorable man. He was always devoted to those he loved and worked hard to make sure those around him were well cared.

Rick is survived by his wife, Vickie Mills and his son Nathan Mills. Grandchildren, Blake O’Malley, Connor Mills and Kamryn Mills. His siblings, Judy (Larry) Wilsbach, Ron (Karen) Mills, Kenny Mills, Lisa (Gary) Hinderman, and Kevin (Sue) Mills. His in-laws, Dan (Sue) Becker, Wade Becker, Brenda Mills, Glenn (Laurie) Becker, Doug (Kristi) Becker, Larry Becker, Lisa (Tom) Droullard, Rory (Jenny) Becker, and Angi (Darren) McCarthy. And many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Nancy Mills; brother, Randy Mills; uncle Harry Mills; and mother and father in-laws Roger and Darlene Becker.

The family wishes to thank the University of Wisconsin Hospitals, especially Nurse Matty; and the Key West EMT team.

Thank you so kindly to all who have reached out in support and love during this difficult time.
