Robert Michael Schiel

Robert M. Schiel, 79, of Columbia, South Carolina, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on July 21, 2025.

Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is assisting the family.

Robert was born on August 16, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Eldon Edward and Dorothy J. (Donovan) Schiel. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1970. Robert proudly served in the United States Air Force in 1965 in Texas  and later worked as a Risk Manager and Patient Advocate at a private hospital.

He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a loyal friend to many. He is survived by his daughter, Julie Frey; grandchildren, Molly and Jack Frey; sisters, Virginia (Phillip) Reinhard and Jane (James) LaBee; and nieces and nephews, Brian, David, Phillip Jr., Tyler, and Beth. He will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eldon and Dorothy, nephew Bruce, and niece Nicole.
