Sr. Alice Schaefer

Sr. Alice (Sebastian) Schaefer, 97, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024.

The Remembering Service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Clare House Chapel, Mount St. Francis Center. The Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Clare House Chapel followed by burial at the Sisters of St. Francis natural burial site. Sr. Alice was born on August 22, 1927 in Meyer, Iowa, daughter of Mathias and Isabelle (Blake) Schaefer.

Alice entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1946 and made final profession of vows August 10, 1952. Sister received her masters degree in elementary administration from Loras College, Dubuque, IA. She ministered as an educator in Iowa at Granville, Monticello, Sacred Heart, Dubuque, St. Mary, Cascade, Worthington, and as a dietary assistant at Mount St. Francis Center, Dubuque. She also served in Melrose Park, IL and Brooksville, MS. 

Sister is survived by her sisters-in-law Jeanette Schaefer, Florence Schaefer, and Marilyn Rogers, nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan sisters.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Robert (Colette) Schaefer, Ray Schaefer, Amos Schaefer, and Avery Schaefer.
