Steven L. Blong

Steven L. "Steve" Blong, 64, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on November 24th, 2025, at Sunnycrest Manor, surrounded by his three children.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 1st, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd, with a memorial service and Military Honors to be held at 6:30 p.m. by the America Legion Post #6 and the Iowa Army National Guard. 

Steve was born August 19, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Donald and Shirl Blong (Hittenmiller). On March 17, 1983, he married Lori K. Schumacher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sharing 42 years together. He honorably served his country in the United States Army before working as a tractor/trailer mechanic for Hirschbach, where he remained until his retirement.

Steve lived with a big heart and an even bigger sense of humor. He cheered for the Iowa Hawkeyes with unmatched enthusiasm. As much as he loved the Hawkeyes, nothing meant more to him than time with his family. He treasured every moment he spent with his kids, and his grandkids were the brightest joy of his life. Whether he was telling stories, cracking jokes, or giving words of wisdom, he made every moment unforgettable.

Steve is survived by his mother, Shirl Blong; wife, Lori Blong; daughter, Ashley (Josh) Klein; son, Zach (Cierra) Blong; daughter, Brooklyn (Tyler) Jansen; 14 Grandchildren; three brothers; and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Blong.
