Terry Orton Obituary

Terry Lynn Orton (62), Daughter of Chester and Cora (Larson) Orton, passed away on October 15th, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on July 30th, 1958, Terry was born and raised in Dubuque, IA and graduated from Hempstead High School in 1976,

Terry was born with an innate love of all animals, especially cats and horses. She often shared stories of barrel racing, or riding Goldie or Flicka into town for Ice cream, and if Terry was around, you could always count on a kitty close by.

After graduating High School, Terry attended Brigham Young University and was Married in May 1983 and became a mother in 1984. Her husband was a member of the United States Army, so Terry spent much of her first years as a Wife and mother living in Multiple states including Alabama, Indiana, and ultimately settling in Utah for several years.

Terry lived her life as a home maker and stay at home mom. She was the mom that housed many of the neighborhood kids and was the house that the kids would come play at. She would never pass up an opportunity to play baseball, or ride a big wheel down the street. She also enjoyed Gardening, cooking and baking, there wasn’t much Terry couldn’t make.

In 2004, Terry moved back home to Dubuque, IA, where she spent her remaining years working as a CNA, Medical assistant and working for Ashley Furniture.

She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Orton, her grandparents on both sides as well as many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her mother, Cora (Larson) Orton, a sister, Sherry (David) Engstrom (CA), five children, Kristin (Chris) Kurosawa of Roswell, GA, James Michael (Stephanie) Owens of Dubuque, IA, Emiliann Owens of Cedar Rapids, IA; Stephanie Owens (Bill), of Dubuque, IA; and Alyssa Owens of East Dubuque, IL. 6 Grandchildren, Milly, Kim, Morgan, Kaisa, Brantley, Koen, and several nieces, nephews and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Due to the restrictions of covid 19, the family has opted for a memorial service at a later date.
