Viola Szymanski Obituary

Viola Szymanski formally of Dubuque, IA passed away July 10, 2020 at ManorCare Nursing home in Davenport, IA after a six-year battle with cancer at the age of 63.

Survivors include her mother LuCina Szymanski formally of Dubuque, IA, siblings, George Szymanski of Dubuque, IA, Irene (Joseph) Gotz, of Moline, IL, Paula Szymanski of Moline, IL, Cindy (Morris) Steiner of Verona, WI, Karen (Robert) Pennington of Rock Island, IL, Abby Cowan of West Memphis, AR and Edward (Jennifer) Szymanski of Kearney, NE; Viola had 5 nieces, 2 nephews and 3 grandnieces.  She is preceded in death by her father Roman Szymanski.

Viola was born December 1, 1956 in Dubuque, IA the daughter of Roman and LuCina Szymanski and the oldest of their 8 children.

Viola worked as a CNA her whole life and her fellow workers at the nursing home said she worked hard to care for the residents.  Her kind and compassionate attitude towards others made her a great CNA. When Viola’s grandmother (who Viola was named after) was dying from cancer, Viola went to live with her so she could take care of her.  Viola was a humble person who made people feel like they could be themselves around her.  She also had a very generous spirit and would often do kind gestures for others. Viola could brighten anyone’s day, with her gentle smile or her no-nonsense reply’s that made you laugh. She touched the lives of everyone she knew and will be deeply missed. Viola was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting blankets and outfits.

Viola was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses February 2, 1975 and was a member of the Dubuque South congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had a strong faith in a resurrection.
