Kathy Jo (Hirsch) Welty, 57 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jennifer Meyer officiating.

Kathy was born on January 19, 1959 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Francis and Cecilia (Schmidt) Hirsch. She graduated from Hempstead High School in 1977.  On June 5, 1982 she married Kevin Welty in Dubuque.

Kathy worked the early morning shifts at Kwik Stop on Pennsylvania, was a self- employed florist, but the majority of her time was spent being a fulltime grandma. Her grandchildren who know her as “Mimi” were her life.

Kathy was very creative and her creativity showed through her floral arrangements. She also enjoyed taking pictures, playing cards, lounging by the pool and spreading Christmas Cheer.

She was a very strong woman with a heart of gold. Her family and others always came first and she was the most loving wife ever.

She is survived by her husband Kevin; three children, Lindsey (Jeff) Mohr, Tim (Tara) Welty, and Joey (Kari) Welty; her mother, Cecilia Hirsch; four sisters, Karen Hirsch, Sue (Mike) Schueller, Judy Kines and Jayne Hirsch; three brothers, Rickie (Jane Fishler) Hirsch, Terry Hirsch, and Dan (Janet) Hirsch. Her four grandchildren who she loved dearly, Gabbie and Jax Mohr, Hunter and Tinley Welty. Her father and mother-in-law Jack and Betty Welty and their family; a special uncle Andy; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a very special friend Rachel Ferraro.

She was preceded in death by her father Francis Hirsch; sister Margaret Cecilia; great niece Delaney Robbins; great nephew Parker Robbins; family friend Jeff Hines and her beloved fur baby Lexi.  

In lieu of flowers a Kathy Jo Welty memorial fund will be established.

The family wishes to thank Dubuque Fire and EMS first responders and the staff of Mercy Medical Center for their care and kindness. Also to all of our family and friends for all the kind thoughts and prayers.
