George L. Flanagan, 96 of Dubuque passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at his sons home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Saint Raphael Cathedral With Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, with full military detail accorded by American Legion Post #6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 Monday, February 1, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m.
George was born on January 1, 1920 in Dubuque the son of George and Bessies (Harker) Flanagan. He is a US Army veteran serving from 1944 to 1946.
He married Enid Rudd on September 16, 1941 at Saint Raphael’s Cathedral. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2012. He worked at H & W Motor Freight for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 421. In retirement he was very active with Saint Raphael’s Cathedral helping out where ever he could he also helped out at Leonard Funeral Home for many years. He was also a member of the saint Vincent de Paul Society.
George was also a good family man and enjoyed spending time with his family especially at the cottage at Leisure Lake.
He is survived by his son George (Mary Lou) Flanagan of Dubuque, his four grandsons
George (Lisa) Flanagan, Tom (Stacy) Flanagan, Mike (Peggy) Flanagan and Bob (Tina) Flanagan, eleven great grandchildren, Olivia, McKenzie, George III, Jon, Cory, Matt, Dylan, Logan, Connor, Taylor, Charley Flanagan, and three great great grandchildren, Braley, Kendyl, and Mariah
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Enid.
In lieu of flowers a George Flanagan memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ringold, Dr. Whalen, Hospice of Dubuque and Tri State Dialysis for all their wonderful care they gave to George.
