John R. "Jack" Koenig, 69 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 12th, 2016 at home with his loving bride by his side, after a brief battle with cancer.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, July 16th, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Jack was born on September 17th, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa to Ray and Margaret (Drosopoulos) Koenig. He graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1964, the worked at John Deere until retiring in 2001.
He married Judy Kennedy on October 12th, 1968. Jack enjoyed spending time boating on the river, tinkering in his garage and spending time with his family. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, brother, son and friend.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 47 years, Judy, three daughters: Tammy Koenig, Dawn "Hilda" (Bill) Koopmann and Angella "Goob" (Tim) Moore. His mother Margaret and in his own words, "Three of the best sisters a brother could ask for", Rae Ann (Tom) Freund, Sherry Breitbach, Kris (Jon) Russett along with 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and lifelong best friend Buddy Spiegelhalter.
He is proceeded in death by his father Ray Koenig and brother in law Ronnie Brietbach.
The family would like to thank University of Iowa Neurology Department, Finley Rehab and Hospice of Dubuque for the incredible care that was given to Jack.
He was truly one of the good guys! The world was definitely a better place with him in it.
