Lois J. Johns, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on April 23rd, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center.
Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29th at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Duane Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.
Lois was born on January 12, 1929 in Alma, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Mengelt) Brotzman. She married James Johns on November 19, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2003.
Lois and her husband, Jim, owned Johns Yellowstone Lake Chalet for nine years. They shared a great love for being outdoors; they enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. Lois also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, but she especially loved to volunteer. She was most recently volunteering at the American Cancer Society and helping coordinate the polls during the elections.
She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Lois was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her loving family.
She is survived by her three children, Lisa (Brian) Hammel, Dave (Joyce) Johns and Larry Johns, all of Dubuque. Nine grandchildren, Shannon, Tom, Mike, A.J., Chris, Jessica, Alexis, Bryce and Brisa along with seven great grandchildren. Her siblings Glenn (Ruth) Brotzman and Betty Stark and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, and two sons, Duane on October 11, 2007 and James “Jimmy” on September 12, 2015, two brothers Marv and Lloyd and a sister Audrey Bennett.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or the Breast Cancer Society.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque and Hawkeye Care Center for all the wonderful care they gave to Lois.
