Nicolette (Nikki) Hnizdor Smith, 65, died on September 30, 2015 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade, IA.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1684 Iowa St., Dubuque, on October 24th at 11:30 a.m.

Nicolette was born November 4, 1949 in Garden City, Michigan daughter of Florence (Wolan) and Nicholas Hnizdor. Nicolette was educated at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan studying Biology and Political Science while employed at Hydromation Engineering and Filter Co., Livonia, Michigan. Later, she was employed at IBM in Peoria, IL., and D.E. SMITH & ASSOCIATES, INC. in Arlington Heights, Il and Dubuque, IA.

She and Dane E. Smith were joined in marriage in September, 1976. They lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois before moving to Dubuque, Iowa.

Nicolette was a homemaker, a secretary, and an active member of First Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies were raising Hereford cattle, miniature Abysinian donkeys and riding her Morgan mare, Duchess.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Bradley Smith; three grand children Tyler Lodewyck of Plainfield, IL; Emily J. Bleile, Bernard, IA; Autumn Marie Smith, Epworth, IA; and an aunt, Amelia (Wolan) Robertson, Canton, MI; By marriage, Nikki was blessed with four sons, one daughter, three daughters-in-law, six granddaughters, six grandsons, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Nicolette was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Rodney Hnizdor.
