Rick L. Willey, 65 of La Motte, Iowa passed away on May 9, 2015 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital surrounded by family.
Funeral service will be at 12:00p.m. Friday, May 15th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Entombment will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Thursday, May 14th at the funeral home.
Rick was born on April 12, 1950, in East Moline, IL the son of Richard and Dorothy (Verschor) Willey. He married Pamela (Stierman) Brimeyer on March 19, 1994.
He retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in 2002 after 30 years as a welder and was a proud member of UAW Local 94.
Rick was a Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Bulls fan along with Notre Dame. He enjoyed fishing and spent most of his retirement fishing or planning fishing trips. After retiring, he taught himself woodworking and enjoyed sharing his work with family and friends. He loved music, especially the Blues, and was one of the many faces in the crowd at Woodstock. He was also an avid Harley Davidson rider and took many cross-country trips.
Most of all, Rick enjoyed and loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events.
He is survived by his wife Pamela, four children, Shawna (Christopher) Donar, of Benton, WI, Trista (Steve) Calonder, of Sumner, Iowa, Michael (Kimberly) Willey, of Atlanta, GA, Allison (Aaron) Brimeyer, of Minneapolis, MN. Nine grandchildren, Emma and Cael Donar, Austin, Aidan, Nathanial, Ethan, Noah, and Hannah Calonder, and Madison Kelsey. One sister Vicky King, of Elkhart, Indiana, and a brother Craig Willey, of Dubuque, Iowa, and his “bonus mom” Sharon Willey, of Sun City West, AZ, and wonderful extended family, friends and neighbors, along with his first “girlfriend”, Stephanie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers a Rick Willey memorial fund will be established.
The family wishes to thank the La Motte Rescue Squad and Rick’s ICU nurses for their devoted, excellent care.
