Robert J. Hinds, 84, of Dubuque, Ia. passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4th at St. Joseph The Worker Church with Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Friends may gather for visitation between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Robert (Bob) was born on January 14, 1929, in Dubuque, Ia., the son of Robert S. and Mayme (Benda) Hinds. He married Jean Ann Cassutt, on August 30th, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Elkader, Ia.
As a young man, Bob worked for 15 years at the Kraft's Clothing Store and then 25 years at Sears Roebuck & Co. as department manager of menswear and several other departments, retiring in 1987.
He grew up and lived his entire life in Dubuque. He was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque Elks Lodge 297, Sears Retirees and former member of Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and Dubuque Boat Club.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family (especially watching the Hawkeyes with his wife, Jean). He was the life of the party with his sense of humor and warmth. When Bob was around the whole room lit up with love and light. The family and many friends of Bob are thankful for the life that was his and that they were able to be part of it, he will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife Jean, one daughter Sara Sinnard, of Mankato, Mn., his granddaughter Elizabeth (Neil) Waranch, of Virginia Beach, Va., his sister Betty Goodale, of Iowa City, Ia. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Harriet LaBarge, Jean Remy, Bill Hinds, Rita Schueller, and two siblings in infancy Bernice and Maurice.
The family would like to thank the Manor Care staff for their care and kindness during Bob's stay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Robert Hinds Memorial Fund.
