Jim was born on June 5, 1926 at home in Cascade, Iowa the son of Francis and Mary (McAllister) Clancy. He attended St. Columbkille School until he was called to serve his country. In WWII Jim proudly served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific War.

Jim married Ruth Busch on February 14, 1953. They spent 62 years together, joined in faith and love.

Jim worked at the Dubuque Packing Company for 39 years before retirement. After retiring from the Pack, Jim worked at the Telegraph Herald for an additional 17 years.

Jim was a devoted Christian who loved his Lord. He was an amazing father who counted his blessings not by his monetary possessions, but by his love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving father who enjoyed taking his children; sledding, ice skating, kite flying, camping, swimming and snipe hunting. He was a die-hard Packer fan and loved the Fighting Irish and the Chicago Cubs. Jim’s legacy is the family he leaves behind to honor his memory.

He was an active scout leader and member of St. Mary’s Parish. He served on the parish council, was a lector and Eucharistic Minister. He loved coaching the Holy Name baseball team and bowling at Riverside Bowl. In his later years he found great enjoyment playing Euchre with his many friends at the Life Time Center.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Ruth, and his ten children: Margaret Clancy, Steven Clancy, Maryann (Steve) Shaffer, Barb (Dave) Runde, Rose Clancy, and Edward (Kathy) Clancy all of Dubuque, Carol (Steve) Link, of Elgin, Iowa, Francis (Sue) Clancy, of St. Donatus,  Thomas (Lynne) Clancy, Toledo, Iowa, Theresa (Randy) Lynch, of Pleasant Hill. Twenty six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Elaine Clancy and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Charles “Chuck” Clancy, Joseph Clancy, and three sisters, Irene Clancy, Agnes Jameson, and Rita Welsh Blewett.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Life-Time Center, St. Raphael Cathedral, or friends of Bill W.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Longo and his staff, and Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care. A special thank you to Ann O’Brien for all the love and support.
