Jannette M. “Jane” Stanton, 87, of Peosta, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Shady Rest Care Center, in Cascade, Iowa.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Saint John the Baptist Church in Peosta with Fr. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery, New Melleray. Friends may call from 3 to 7 Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a wake service at 3:00 p.m. Friends may also gather after 9:30a.m. Saturday at the church until time of mass.
Jane was born on June 1, 1928 in Temple Hill the daughter of Basil and Florence (Orr) Gavin. She married John Stanton on June 21, 1952 at Saint Peter Church at Temple Hill.
She taught school for many years beginning at the age of 19 in a one room school house at Temple Hill. She later taught at Onslow and Maquoketa and finished her 40-year teaching career at Saint Anthony’s in Dubuque. She enjoyed travelling with John, attended many car shows and NASCAR races. She especially enjoyed their trips to Daytona Florida.
Jane is survived by her two sons, John (Joan) Stanton, of Cedar Falls and Terry (Chamratchon “Oy”) Stanton, of Peosta; a grandson Eric (Harriett) Stanton, and granddaughter Christine Shepard; five great grandchildren, Cody, Tanner, Jakie, Oliver, and Hugo; and three siblings Joanne Recker, of Hopkinton, Maureen (Jack) Hayes, of Glendora, CA and Maurice Gavin, of Aledo, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; and three brothers Allan, Dick and Patrick.
The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and all Jane’s friends at Shady Rest for all the comfort care and kindness they showed to her.
