Charles H. "Breg" Bregman, DVM 93 of 2611 Rockdale Road passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
Family and friends may gather from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6th, 2016 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where services will be at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Hal Murry officiating, and Dr. Bonnie Sue Lewis to give eulogy.
Charles was born on November 5, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Henry and Verna (Thiede) Bregman. He served in the United States Navy. -
He married Katherine Elizabeth Bargen and together they had one son Chuck. Katherine preceded him in death on February 4, 1969. He later married Lueann Strub on August 7, 1970.
In 1951 he graduated from Iowa State as a Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine. Breg worked in Cascade and La Motte as a veterinarian and in 1962 he opened the Animal Clinic in Key West, retiring in 2005.
He is survived by his wife Lueann, two children, Chuck (Dorothy “Dottye” ) Bregman, of Dubuque, and Bonnie (Greg) Margheim, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Three grandchildren, Jensen, Ryley, Grayson; and a brother, John “Jack” Bregman of Bettendorf; mother-in-law, Shirley Strub-Baker, of Dubuque; brothers and sisters-in-law; Terry (Debee) Strub, of La Motte, Vicki (Francis) Weber, of Dubuque, Peter (Denice) Strub, of Travelers Rest, SC., Janet (Stephen) Shepherd, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Katherine, his sister Dorothy Ann Nigrine, and father-in-law Robert “Bob” Strub.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and to Hospice of Dubuque.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ronald Schope and his nurse Laurie; Manor Care Health Services for their wonderful care during therapy over the years; Dr. Liu at the VA Medical Center in Coralville, Iowa and to Hospice of Dubuque for being there for “Breg” and his family.
