Put on your dancing shoes. A homecoming party is planned for Ranol J. “Ray” Weigel who died January 9, 2017 at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 16th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Pastor Jim Lucy officiating. Military honors by American Legion Post #6 will follow the service. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service.

Ray was born on August 15, 1939 in Platteville Wisconsin the son of Wilbert and Hilda (Suhr) Weigel.

He graduated from University of Wisconsin Platteville with a major in Agriculture Education and a minor in Instrumental Music. He was an insurance salesman for Equitable of Iowa Insurance Company for 26 years.

He was a National Guard veteran serving with the 32nd Red Arrow Division at Ft. Louis Washington; he was called from 1961 to 1962 for the Berlin Crisis.

Ray provided music for the Tri-State Ballroom Dancers at Happy's Place and filled in as D.J. at the American Legion as needed. He was a Dubuque County Conservation board member for over 40 years serving as president twice.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Witterholt-Weigel; and her children, Melinda (Charlie) Willison, Greg (Beth) Witterholt, and their children, Bailey, Evan, and Dustin. His sister Carol (Jim) Georgi. Sisters-in-law Alice Irving, Helen Clemens, Sally Donaldson, Mary (Roger) Weydert; brothers-in-law, Donald (Darlene) Schmitt, and Tony (friend, Gina) Schmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care and compassion they gave.
