Steve Decker, 82, of Dubuque, died October 1st, 2015.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with Rev. Michael Podhajsky officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call from 4 to 6 Monday at the funeral home.
Steve was born on November 2, 1932, in Dubuque, the son of Nicholas and Clara (Berthel) Decker. He completed 8th grade at the Little Red School House (Prairie Creek Township) in Bernard, Iowa. In his teens, he became a farmhand at the Reiter Farmstead in Cascade, Iowa. He often spoke of his little buddy, Christopher. After marriage in 1958, he raised his family in Durango, Iowa, on a small farm. There he developed a successful business with garage doors and windows. At the age of 72, he began working as a security guard at the American Trust Bank until his retirement.
He is survived by his Daughter Donna and four sons, Jeff, Tim, Terry and Jim Decker; sisters, Ruth Decker and Alice (Jim) Kruser; grandchildren Daniel, Jason, Sara, Zac, Zeb, Abe, Jennifer, and Jessica; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Beth (Dan) Schumacher; his parents; and siblings Bob Decker, Leota Niederhauser, Marion Russow, Dorothy McCarthy, and Leo in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
